It is with great sadness that we report on Colin's passing.
Colin joined the club in the 1957, captaining in the early 1960's.
Martin Greenway, who along with daughter Lydia and Mike Askew, visited Colin last Friday, writes:
"We reminisced about Hayes and Cricket. When he was Captain of the Hayes First Team in the early sixties the Team used to meet at Hayes Station.
We lived in Ridgeway with my parents and at the age of about 13/14 I was walking through the New Inn car park to the shops and Colin had just had a drop out.
He asked if could play and went to see Dad at home to get his permission for me to play. Dad said to Colin if he thought I was good enough I could play.
To cut a long story short we went to Upminster in Essex, Upminster made about 130 and Colin took 5 wickets. He batted me no 7 and he and I put on 80 to win the game - Colin got 50 and I made around 25.
He loved that story when we went through it on Friday, his eyes lit up"
Colin's love of cricket continued after his playing days finished and he had a succesful career as an Umpire standing both for Hayes and in the Kent League.
I am sure many more stories will be told in the coming days and we will update this article with further details.
Our condolences go to Sue and Family at this difficult time.
