Kind words have been reaching the club since the news broke:
Bruce Purgavie remembers a notable quick bowler from a short run
Phil Burnstead commented " Colin was one of the best bowlers I ever played with, opening up with the great Graham Ellis the other end, what an opening partnership"
Phil continues "Colin and Graham also introduced a number of us to lots of iced Southern Comfort at a very hot Marlborough 1870, when they were playing for the 2’s as batsmen only! Needless to say I haven’t a clue how the game went.........."
Linda Roake " So sad what a lovely man. Spent many happy evenings with him and Sue"
Pat Carney " He will be missed"
Nicky Ledder "So sad. Such a lovely man. RIP Colin xxx"
Former England and Hayes star Kathryn Leng remembers "Sad news.....the only umpire I know who had a pelican ( or something similar, was on my third pint when he told the story ) invade the pitch xx"
Emma Greenway "Absolute gentleman. Will be sorely missed x"
Steve Walker and Neil Chisholm recollect Colin's passion fro both Umpiring and a beer ~(or two) after the game, Neil remarks " I saw him drink the odd pint Steve! Come to think of it i generally paid in thanks for the odd dodgy lb decision." and Steve remembers one decision "He only have me out lb once although by the time he had thought about it I had walked off as it was plumb."
Colin will be missed and remembered for his part in the history of Hayes.
