Members of the club said goodbye to Dennis and Past President, Garth Copper, longtime friend of Dennis and his family, paid tribute.
"Dennis Powell and Dennis Dawes both joined Hayes when Elmers End folded. I have little to add to what Phil Burnstead has already posted. However, I also remember Dennis as a bustling medium pace bowler scurrying up the hill at Hayes.
He bowled slightly short of a length "dobbers" that didn't bounce much.
He was a great 'clubman' and was very straightforward. What you saw was what you got. He was a Hayes CC VP.
His son, Richard, played football for Midland Bank and Richards tells me that Dennis continually ferried players right across London Saturday after Saturday, even continuing to do so even after Richard stopped playing.
Do you get many like that nowadays? Have they thrown away the mould?"
