Hayes Hurricanes unable to defeat Bath Wanderers for the second time this season
Hayes got off to a good start with Kathryn Doherty and Clare Crewdson removing the opening batters and Hannah Jelfs and Deveena Pithia picking up wickets to leave Bath looking like they were struggling at 87-6. However Bath managed to more than double their score to end up all out for 180, with Kara Toleman cleaning up the tail with three wickets. Bath’s Elwyn Campbell batted solidly for most of the innings to score the majority of Bath’s runs before Susie Rowe got her out caught behind for the last wicket and therefore the last ball of the innings on the dreaded 99.
The Hurricanes batting lineup got off to shaky start losing two very early wickets for only 8 runs. Kathryn Doherty (59) and Susie Rowe (35) worked hard to rebuild the innings and put on a valuable 82 run partnership. They patiently saw off the opening bowlers who had done the early damage before accelerating and picking up five an over to look set to chase down the target. But once Susie Rowe was out and the partnership was broken, Hayes lost the next 8 wickets for only 43 runs to finish on a mere 133 runs, well short of the required 180 total.
Hayes Hurricanes are looking forward to England Internationals Lydia Greenway and Laura Marsh returning from England duty for the remaining games of the season. Greenway and Marsh will return fresh from helping England win the Quad Series this summer and will hopefully be able to help Hayes climb from their current third place position to top of the Premier League South Division.
