The first pre season game took place yesterday at Oxted and Hayes were looking to a positive start.
Losing the toss, Hayes batted first and a steady opening partnership from Sam Davis (17) and Liam Buttery (31) saw 52 put on for the first wicket, before both fell quickly.
James Bamber (17) and skipper Beau Couldrey moved the score on but there dismissals precipitated a minor collapse.
However Connor Byrne (14), playing and uncharacteristic patient innings and Stuart Eddicott (36) playing a characteristic big hitting innings, saw Hayes post a competitive 156 all out.
The Oxted ground was bathed in sunshine and a good few Hayes supporters crossed the county line to support the boys - the added attraction of the Oxted Legion overlooking the ground with a splendid selection of drink helped!
Oxted's reply started strongly but Stuart (6-0-29-2) and debutant Jacob Marlow (7-0-21-3) pegged them back.
Andrew Eddicott (7-4-17-2) then kept the pressure on and with Scott Gallagher (7-1-22-1) and Tom Davis (6-1-15-1) picking up a wicket each, Hayes bowled Oxted out for 149.
A good performance and a beautiful place to return to - Hayes Sunday 2's played a regular fixture with Oxted some years back.
